American White Pelican

I love the flocks of American White Pelicans that do their silent serpentine flight across the sky. Flock after flock fly over my home several times of year. Here they are headed to Caballo Reservoir about 20 miles south. These birds are huge; 16.4 pounds with a 9 foot wingspan. I'm sure that there is literally a TON of birds in some of these flocks. It would take just 121 birds to make a ton and this flock had more than 90 in it. Unlike the flocks of Sandhill Crane that also use this fly-way these birds usually fly silently.
